  • New Port Macquarie Marine Rescue and Kiosk building nearly complete
  • March 15, 2016

Port Macquarie's popular Town Beach will soon have its new Marine Rescue and Kiosk building up and running.

Last year work began to redevelop the existing building, which was almost 50 years old and deteriorating.

The council's Gary Randall said the modern, new building was now ready for an internal fit-out by Marine Rescue and the kiosk operators.

He said that would happen over the coming week.

"You've got upgraded public amenities downstairs, a significant improvement on what was here previously," he said.

"There's a new cafe opening up underneath it and a much more aesthetically pleasing building, much more architectural and certainly longer-lasting than what we had previously, which was in a poor state of repair."

Councillor Justin LeVido, chair of the council's major projects portfolio, said the new building would bring many benefits to the community.

"It's going to benefit the community from a number of points of view, a more functional use of this space and also a beautification of this area," he said.

"So we are going to see more modern toilet and dressing facilities, also we've been able to utilise space a lot better, which means Marine Rescue will have better functionality and there's also been an upgrading of the area for the kiosk."
