Boaters are reminded to keep clear of a section of Newcastle Harbour this Saturday for the safe staging of the Light Up Newcastle Aquatic Festival.

Roads and Maritime Services has granted an exclusive use aquatic licence to host the event on Newcastle Harbour between 1pm and 10pm on Saturday 13 February.

During this time an event area will be established on Newcastle Harbour between Dyke Point and Throsby No. 1 Berth.

On Saturday night between 9pm and 9.30pm an additional event area will be established for fireworks in Throsby Basin.

Vessel operators should avoid the area within a 150 metre radius around the firing barge which will be moored in the Basin alongside the Maritime Centre.

The event area will be monitored by control vessels. Vessels not involved in the event should not enter the marked area unless authorised by a boating safety officer or a police officer.

Roads and Maritime reminds people to wear a lifejacket when boating, especially in vessels smaller than 4.8 metres when alone, at night or offshore.
