  • Dangerous bombora almost claims three more lives
  • February 10, 2016
DOBROYD HEAD’S notorious bombora almost claimed three more lives on Saturday after a 16-foot boat with a father and two sons on board was hit by a wave, rolled over and swamped.

The trio were rescued by the crew of Manly 16-foot Skiff Sailing Club’s marker boat and a towline was attached to the semi-submerged vessel.

But during the tow, the boat sank about 350m off Washaway Beach, although a fender was attached to the tow line before it was cut so salvagers will be able to locate the boat quickly.

The drama began when the 16-foot fibreglass half-cabin cruiser was hit by a wave on the bombora off Dobroyd Head about 1.30pm and rolled.

The boat had left Clontarf and was heading towards North Harbour at the time.
