  • Harrington celebrates John Gollan Day 2016
  • January 05, 2016

BOOKS, candles, hats, posters, clowns, candles and ice creams.

Dresses, doorstops, trinkets, treats and toys.

For anyone who still had cash and energy in reserve after a hectic Christmas period, the John Gollan day markets were the place to be on the first day of the New Year.

More than 140 stalls perched along the Harrington foreshore attracted a crowd of thousands of locals and tourists who browsed the massive array of goods on offer, with perfect weather an added incentive to attend.

The market, which acts as the main revenue raiser for the for the Crowdy Harrington NSW Marine Rescue unit, also included show rides, live music entertainment and a model train expo at the neighbouring Harrington Bowling Club.

With each volunteer NSW Marine Rescue unit obliged to raise 70 per cent of their yearly operating costs through fundraising, the strong turnout will be a boost for the organisation in the year 2016.

There was no shortage of entertainment for the whole family, with Shetland pony rides and a number of snow cone stalls popular with the younger visitors.

The fireworks show at 9pm has attracted a reputation as one of the best in the region, with thousands attending to watch the display as it's set off from the Harrington break wall.

The fireworks and music are funded by the Harrington Chamber of commerce and by sponsorship from a few organisations and business houses.
