Boaters are reminded of changed conditions on a section of the Shoalhaven River at Nowra this weekend for the safe staging of the Shoalhaven River Festival.

Roads and Maritime Services has granted an exclusive use aquatic licence to Shoalhaven City Council to host the event on the river between 1.30pm and 9.15pm on Saturday, and 8.30am and 4pm on Sunday, weather permitting.

An event area will be established from the Nowra Rowing Club to the northern foreshore of Greys Beach, and downstream to the Nowra Bridge.

Recreational vessels will be able to move through the special event area using the transit zone in front of Greys Beach foreshore near the northern bank.

A speed limit of four knots and no wash conditions will apply for vessels navigating the transit zone.

The transit zone will be closed between 8.15pm and 9.15pm on Saturday for fireworks.

The event area will be marked with inflatable buoys and monitored by control vessels.

Vessels not involved in the event should not enter the special event area unless authorised by a boating safety officer or a police officer.

Roads and Maritime reminds people to wear a lifejacket when boating, especially in vessels smaller than 4.8 metres when alone, at night or offshore.
