  • Medals honour marine couple
  • October 13, 2015

A COMBINED total of more than 30 years of volunteer work with Marine Rescue NSW has been rewarded with two locals being honoured with National Service Medals.

Coast couple Tony and Linda Jones are dedicated people who've given their time and expertise to an organisation that contributes so much to community safety. They were presented with their medals by Federal Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker.

Tony and Linda not only have given 30 years of service to Marine Rescue they are contributing to the future of the service by training others, including newcomers.

The couple, both avid sailors who sailed from Darwin to Port Lincoln via the west coast, are training the next generation of volunteers, while also driving fundraising for the Beacon Hill radio base and a rescue vessel.

Tony joined Coffs Harbour Volunteer Coastal Patrol in 1998, and his wife Linda joined the next year.

Tony is now a member of Marine Rescue Woolgoolga and Linda is with Marine Rescue Coffs Harbour and a former Coffs Harbour Citizen of the Year.
