  • Evans Head emergency services stage a joint fire and emergency first aid training drill
  • June 16, 2015

Members of two Evans Head emergency services staged a joint fire and emergency first aid training drill on Saturday.

Crews from Marine Rescue Evans Head and Fire and Rescue NSW assembled at the Evans Head boat harbour for the exercise, testing their response to a mock fire on board a trawler.

Two people suffered severe burns and another had been thrown overboard into the water.

Members of FRNSW crew helped the two injured people off the vessel, attending to their injuries while they awaited transport for medical treatment and began extinguishing the blaze on the trawler.

Meanwhile, the MR Evans Head crew retrieved the person from the water and began CPR, before joining in the firefighting effort from the water.

Evans 30 was then deployed to position a barrier around the trawler to contain pollution from an oil spill.

The exercise was followed by a full debrief of all personnel involved, including the Marine Rescue radio operators and watch keeper.
