Letter to Newcastle Herald from Leesa Warren, Toronto: Marine HQ needs rescuing

I AM appalled at the treatment of Newcastle Marine Rescue after the damage to their base in the April super storm.

This organisation is always out there in all kinds of inclement weather, with representatives putting their own lives on the line to rescue members of the public on the high seas.

To think that the request for portable buildings to be put on site – off The Terrace, Newcastle, – has been denied by Newcastle City Council defies belief.

The transmitter and radio network for the rescue base is right there and these volunteers need the support of the council and community to be able to get back to work.

We need to support Commander Ron Calman and get this organisation back on board, surely someone can help them out.

We owe them for all of their hard work, come on Newcastle, get Marine Rescue working again.

Leesa Warren, Toronto
