Boaters are reminded to keep clear of Newcastle Harbour and within two nautical miles offshore of the harbour entrance this weekend for the safe staging of powerboat races.

Roads and Maritime Services has granted an exclusive use aquatic licence to the APBA Offshore Council to host the event on Newcastle Harbour on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April from 9am to 2pm each day.

An event area will be established and marked by buoys in Newcastle Harbour downstream of the Port Hunter Sailing Club at Stockton, Dockyard Berth No. 4 (Steelworks Channel) and the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club.

Vessels not involved in the event should not enter the marked area unless authorised by a boating safety officer or a police officer. Control vessels will monitor access to the event area.

Roads and Maritime reminds people to wear a lifejacket when boating, especially in vessels smaller than 4.8 metres when alone, at night or offshore.
