Volunteers from Marine Rescue NSW are on standby every day of the year – even Christmas Day – to help boaters in trouble on our waters.

A crew from Marine Rescue Ulladulla returned a father and daughter stranded in a small runabout off Bannister headland to safety on Christmas morning.

The pair called the unit for help just before 11am. They had anchored their four metre runabout not even 20 metres immediately north of Bannister headland rocks in 10m of water,  2.3 nautical miles north of Ulladulla Harbour.

Both were safe and well and wearing their lifejackets, however, they had experienced a faulty fuel gauge and run out of fuel.

Skipper Doug Musker, with a crew of four on board Ulladulla 30, located the vessel easily in bright sunny conditions with 15 knots of wind from the north and a 1.5 m easterly swell.

The vessel was safely towed to the pontoon in Ulladulla Harbour with Ulladulla 30 moored by 12.15pm.

With Ulladulla within the zone for a severe thunderstorm warning, the tow was timely.

A storm from the north west and downpour reached Ulladulla less than an hour after the vessels’ return.
