Five rescue vessels from Marine Rescue NSW are involved in the search for a missing person following a light aircraft crash into the ocean between Batemans Bay and Moruya early this afternoon.

The body of one person has been recovered. The search continues for a second person and involves NSW Police from Far South Coast Local Area Command and the Marine Area Command, along with Marine Rescue NSW, Royal Life Saving and vessels fromRoads & Maritime Services and the NSW Department of Fisheries.

At sea with the Marine Rescue fleet, Acting Regional Controller for Marine RescueMonaro Region, Glenn Sullivan said, “We have five vessels from Marine Rescue taking part in this search; three from Batemans Bay, one from Narooma and one from Tuross.”

Marine Rescue NSW Regional Controller for Illawarra, Bruce Mitchell, is at Batemans Bay and is acting as the land-based coordinator for Marine Rescue.
