In conjunction with the Shop 7 Art Space Gallery, Marine Rescue Bermagui is holding an exhibition of photos and artefacts based around a harbour theme, particularly Bermagui Harbour.

The Bermagui Historical Society, Fisherman’s Wharf and many local residents have contributed, including local skipper, diver and Marine Rescue member, Keith Appleby, who has produced some gems from his private collection.

Based on information from local fisherman Frank Puglesi, Keith located the wreck of the William Dawes, a vessel sunk by the Japanese in 1942.

Marine Rescue Bermagui and the Fisherman’s Wharf have invited visitors to drop in to the art gallery and the historical exhibition before taking the Harbour Hunt, a ‘treasure hunt’ around the harbour to spot, photograph and map listed items of interest, including Keith, Barney the Sea Dog and their vessel, the Binjarra.

A prize is on offer for the best presented and most complete map, as judged by Keith. The closing date for entries is June 25.

The event runs from May 29 to June 25. The Harbour Artefacts exhibition is at the Marine Rescue Bermagui base, Shop 8, Fisherman’s Wharf. Entry is by gold coin donation to support the unit’s work to save lives on the water.
