  • 2017 Election of Board Directors Notice for members to nominate candidates for election to the position of MRNSW Director
  • September 28, 2017
Members can now nominate potential candidates for election to the position of Director of Volunteer Marine Rescue NSW (MRNSW)

Five vacancies

One General Director and four Regional Directors are to be elected at the MRNSW Annual General Meeting to be held on 25 November 2017.

The MRNSW Constitution states:

“At each Annual General Meeting there shall be an election for at least one General Director by the Members in accordance with the Rules and timetable determined by the Board … for a term of up to three years.

Members of each Region will elect a Regional Director in accordance with the Rules and timetable determined by the Board … for a term of up to two years”.

The Board has determined that there will be no change to the election timetable set at the inaugural MRNSW Annual General Meeting in 2010 for either the General or Regional Director positions due for election. However, an election will also be held for the position of Illawarra Regional Director, following the resignation of former Director, Mr Bill Carter in May this year. This will be a one-year position to complete Mr Carter’s original two-year term.

Consequently, there will be elections for the positions of:

 A General Director. The incumbent is Mrs Pat Fayers.

 The Northern Rivers Regional Director. The incumbent is Mr Bernie Gabriel, who has advised the Board that he will not seek re-election.

 The Mid North Coast Regional Director. The incumbent is Mr John Lynch.

 Hunter/Central Coast Regional Director. The position is vacant following the resignation of Mr Roger Evans.

 Illawarra Regional Director. This position is currently vacant. This will be a one-year term.

The Board has determined that a member can only be nominated for one Director’s position in any election.

Criteria for nomination

Section 3.1.2 of the MRNSW Rules states:

“A Member seeking election as a Director must be an active Member for at least two years as at the date of the election unless otherwise determined by the Board and must possess skill sets, such as professional qualifications or board, managerial, governance or corporate fundraising experience.”

The Board is required to ratify nominations to ensure the candidates have met these criteria.

Method of nomination

Nominations for election require a proposer, seconder and an acceptance by the nominee on Form MR195 Nomination for Regional and/or General Elections 2015, which also allows a nominee to set out his/her MRNSW service details and relevant skill sets. This form, the Directors’ Code of Conduct and Directors’ Charter are available on Otter.

After ratification by the Board, Nomination forms are to be placed on Unit Noticeboards by the Unit Commanders. They will also be placed on Otter under Documents/Annual General Meetings/Annual General Meeting 2017.

Close of nominations

Nominations for the five Directors’ positions close at the Close of Business (5pm) on Wednesday, 18 October, 2017.

Nominations must be received by the Returning Officer by this deadline. Envelopes should be addressed to the Returning Officer, c/- Marine Rescue NSW, PO Box 579, Cronulla, NSW 2230 received after this time cannot be accepted.
