A volunteer crew from Marine Rescue Cottage Point has this afternoon joined an operation to assist a disabled ocean-going cruiser to safety from 5 nautical miles off Barrenjoey.

The crew of Cottage Point 30, the unit’s 11.5m Sailfish flagship, assisted Broken Bay Water Police as they towed the 65ft cruiser into Pittwater.

Marine Rescue Cottage Point skipper David White said the unit was called by the Police to provide a safety escort for the operation.

“The Police boat had the disabled vessel in tow but this is a big ocean-going cruiser that weighs in at around 30 tonnes and our role was to provide assistance in the event of any further emergency, such as a broken tow line.”

The cruiser was successfully secured to the Police mooring inside Barrenjoey Head.

It is understood that the disabled vessel was on a delivery voyage when it experienced mechanical problems and steering difficulties. There are no reports of any injuries.
