TWO people were rescued from a small motor cruiser on South Head on Sunday after a joint operation between Marine Rescue Middle Harbour and police.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue helicopter was called to the scene after the vessel went aground at about 3.10pm in choppy conditions.

Those on board the vessel were rescued without incident.

No one was injured when the boat ran aground or during another grounding at The Spit. Both incidents were among eight events to which Marine Rescue Middle Harbour responded.
