  • WHY NOT, DISCOVER BOATING WEEK 15 to 23 October 2016
  • October 13, 2016
Discover Boating Week returns in 2016 from Saturday 15th – Sunday 23rd October with the view to educating Australians on the benefits of getting into the recreational boating lifestyle.

Australia has 1 million registered vessels and 2 million Aussies hold a boat drivers licence. Each of these already understand, enjoy and regularly get out on the water. Add in family and friends and one in 5 Australians each year will spend some time in a recreational boat.

Boating does not discriminate and has something for everyone, irrespective of physical ability, sporting tastes or socioeconomic position.

Research shows that the diversity of boating tastes crosses over from sporting related boating through to social boating. Fishing, sailing, water-skiing, scuba diving and kayaking are very popular, with non-energy consuming boating such as cruising being popular with families and those in their later years.

Those interested to find out more about the recreational boating lifestyle can visit or visit activities during the week.

Adelaide on Water Boat Show (15th & 16th October) is a great way to discover more about the lifestyle. Showcasing the latest in boating and fishing, it features great show deals, on-water activities, family entertainment and great food and wine. The show is held at Marina Adelaide, admission is a gold coin donation to charity and the parking is free.

If speed runs high on your agenda, you can take the family down to the pits of Marmong Point Marina at Lake Macquarie for round four of the Offshore Superboat Championships (15th October). This high adrenalin event will certainly be entertaining, but also highlight the beautiful waterways recreational boaters have available to them.

If you love boating now, or would want to get into boating because it will allow you to unwind, spend time with family and friends or to connect with the natural environment - you are sure to enjoy fishing for the same reasons. Gone Fishing Day (16th October 2016), will offer FREE events around NSW as part of a national initiative. The Government has even removed the requirement of a recreational fishing license (on Gone Fishing Day only) to help everyone take part!

Wet a line this 16 October 2016, visit for more info.
