They are the rescuers who have twice needed help in the last year and now Terrigal Marine Rescue have been thrown a $20,000 lifeline to keep the service on an even keel.

On Tuesday, Premier Mike Baird and Terrigal state Liberal MP Adam Crouch inspected the newly completed $1 million upgrade of the Terrigal Haven boat ramp.

The ramp is right next door to Terrigal Marine Rescue’s base which was almost destroyed in a super storm in June after being pounded by huge waves.

Just a month after this, unit commander Cameron Sloey and two crew took delivery of a 9.5m Sailfish boat from Pittwater and were two hours into its maiden voyage when they were hit by a wave while trying to navigate the treacherous channel into Brisbane Water and the boat was destroyed.

On Tuesday, Mr Sloey, the unit’s deputy commander Czes Lawicki and the rest of the team were on deck as the ramp was inspected but had no idea that Mr Baird had a $20,000 surprise for them.
