  • Powerful surf remains after storms leave Gold Coast homes without power

SURF’S up on the Gold Coast – but it’s only for the most experienced wave-riding mammals, with lifeguards yet to reopen northern beaches.

Lifeguards have assessed conditions today, with southern beaches from Rainbow Bay to Burleigh open, while North Burleigh to Main Beach will remain closed due to a strong sweep to the north.

The situation will be reassessed at noon.

Northern NSW was worst hit as a low pressure system travelled past the border ranges early yesterday to the Gold Coast before it swung out to sea.
