Members of Marine Rescue Woolgoolga felt the heat during a recent training exercise with their colleagues from the local Rural Fire Service.

Woolgoolga RFS volunteers gave their time on Sunday, March 10, to provide the MRNSW crew with practical instruction in preventing, fighting and extinguishing fires.

Acting MR Woolgoolga Unit Commander Linda Jones said the course had covered a range of topics including procedures for running out and stowing fire hoses and approaching and extinguishing fires with jet and spray nozzles.

The Marine Rescue crew also was required to safely demonstrate the use of fire extinguishers to put out fuel and diesel fires.

A/UC Jones said the valuable instruction would help the Marine Rescue trainees in their efforts to become competent in fire prevention and extinguishing fires on board vessels.

“It was a worthwhile exercise between two important emergency services in our region,” she said.
